20 CLEANING HABITS TO ADOPT

Keeping your home tidy isn’t always the easiest thing. Dishes in the sink seem to multiply daily, you can’t keep you clothes off the floor and your trashcan can never catch a break. A month goes by and before you know it, you find yourself desperately trying to reach a cleaning company or threatening your children or roommates to do their part.

Below are twenty simple habits to adopt on a daily basis that will keep your home consistently clean and your mind at ease:

  1. Make a point to do the dishes EVERY time you use them. If you are in a hurry, at least rinse them of any residue.
  2. Wipe down your kitchen counters and stove after you cook.
  3. Make your bed each day.
  4. If you have carpet vacuum at least twice a week, even if it’s one room.
  5. If you have hardwood floors, invest in a Swiffer and put it to use twice a week, even if things don’t seem dusty.
  6. Wipe down your bathroom counters daily.
  7. Hang your clothes or put them into their assigned drawers instead of throwing them on the floor. If you’re in a hurry, make a habit of doing this when you get home.
  8. Make sure all kitchen utensils are put away in their proper homes each night.
  9. Fold all couch blankets after you’re finished using them.
  10. Put your shoes away when you get home, even if you think you might leave the house again.
  11. Always unload your dishwasher. This will prevent dishes in your sink from piling up.
  12. Purchase a bowl or a tray to keep loose change or knick-knacks on that usually take up space on your desk or counter
  13. Hang small hooks by your doorway to store keys on
  14. Once a week, wipe down all areas of your home that are prone to dust
  15. If you have a balcony or patio, sweep once a week.
  16. Each time you go grocery shopping, throw away and and all expired food and leftovers.
  17. Designate a file folder, cabinet or drawer to storing all mail and loose paperwork.
  18. Windex all mirrors weekly, even if they don’t seem dirty
  19. Color coordinate your closet. This seems a bit OCD, but it will encourage you to keep your closet organized.
  20. Remove all dead leaves from your plants consistently. This will save the plants!
