Victor Martinez suffered a torn medial meniscus during his offseason workouts last week. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Tigers announced today that DH Victor Martinez suffered a torn medial meniscus.  He is scheduled to have surgery to repair the torn cartilage on Tuesday.  Recovery time could range from anywhere to 2-6 weeks from what I’ve seen/heard.  I don’t think it’ll keep him off of the Opening Day roster, but it may keep him out of Spring Training.

Hopefully this type of non-serious injury doesn’t nag at VMart throughout 2015 and beyond.  We can’t forgot that Martinez is 36 years old.  However, as a full-time DH, I don’t really see this injury causing many problems over the year.  I think Martinez might be sore and achy throughout the season, but this injury isn’t going to cause any further injuries.

What I’m saying, basically, is that there is no need to overreact to this injury.  Martinez will be back shortly after the season begins, if not for Opening Day, and he will have another good year offensively for the Tigers.
