Why Denver Will Not Repeat as AFC West Champions

The Denver Broncos have won the AFC west since the 2011 season. From Tebow to Manning they have dominated the division. I do not believe this success will continue in the 2015 season.

Peyton Manning is not the quarterback he once was. He has been plagued by injuries and played safe at the end of last season. Even if Peyton were the quarterback he once was he would still struggle in big games. I feel like the combination of age and injury will be too much for Manning to overcome and I think this will cause him to struggle even more than he has in the past couple years.

The Broncos lost two big playmakers in receiving positions in Wes Welker and Julius Thomas. Thomas will be the biggest loss for the Broncos this year in my opinion. In 2014 he had 12 touchdowns. That will be hard to replace in the Broncos offense. I think it will be very hard for the Broncos to replace Welker as well, his production has gone down in recent years but he was still a veteran and an important player to the Broncos.

The AFC West is also tougher this year. The Chiefs and Chargers both came within a game of making the playoffs and both teams added playmakers. The Chiefs this year will get back Eric Berry and Derrick Johnson both will help bolster the Chiefs defense this year. The Chiefs also added wide receiver Jeremy Maclin who will add some much needed talent to a receiving group that did not have a touchdown last season. The Chargers had a fantastic pick in the first round of the draft in Melvin Gordon. Gordon will open up the offense and I expect Rivers to have a very good year in the last year of his contract.

The Broncos will also have a tough schedule this year having road games against the Steelers and Colts and home games against the Patriots and Packers. I think the Broncos will be a 12-4 team at best and more likely a 10-6 team. I do not believe that this will be enough to win the division because I think the Chiefs and Chargers could be in the 11-12 win range.

In Conclusion, I believe that the issues and challenges the Broncos face will be too much for the Broncos to overcome I think that they will fall behind the Chiefs and Chargers in the division. The Broncos will be a good team but I do not think they are the top dogs in the division anymore.
