Top QB’s heading into 2016

Smitty’s Top 10 Quarterbacks heading into 2016

Every year the QB rankings rotate some fall, some rise, but we ask the same question EVERY year who’s #1? Here are my top 10 rankings for the 2016 season

1. Cam Newton QB Carolina Panthers

It will be hard for Cam to duplicate his 2015 MVP season

Cam had one of the most dominant seasons in the history of the game because he took the game over running and passing while leading the Panthers to a 15-1 and a berth in Super Bowl 50. If he has another season such as his MVP season in 2015, he’ll definitely get into the elite QB situation.

2. Aaron Rodgers QB Green Bay Packers

Rodgers started the season off very strong and led the Packers to a 5-0 start out the gate just to falter down the stretch and limp into the playoffs. However Rodgers and the Pack almost pulled off an upset in Glendale against the Cardinals, Which lets you know he’s is still one of the best.

3. Tom Brady QB New England Patriots

Will he or won’t he be suspended, at this point who cares, Brady will pickup where he left off at the end of the 2015 regular season

Tom Brady’s year and a half could be one of the worst stretches in the history of the NFL. He still has “DeflateGate” looming over his head and a 4-game suspension he has to serve to start the season, but Brady’s is still undeniably one of the best in the game today. When he returns from his suspension the Pats are still expected to win the division and still compete for a title.

4. Ben Roethlisberger QB Pittsburgh Steelers

The Big Ben and Antonio Brown duo are in for another big season in the Steel city
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

If Ben Roethlisberger is healthy he’s a top 3 NFL QB and his pinpoint accuracy downfield makes him dangerous to the point where he could put up 500 yards very quickly. The Steelers have the weapons on offense led by this guy, but they the defense help bring the Black & Yellow another championship.

5. Carson Palmer QB Arizona Cardinals

Palmer had a career year and his weapons are more in depth with his style of play which could mean trouble for their 2016 opponents.
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Carson Palmer put on a show in the desert last season as he led the Cards to their best season since their Super Bowl run in 2008. Palmer still has the weapons to get the team back in the same position, but how much does he have left in the tank?

6. Drew Brees QB New Orleans Saints

Brees has a full slate of receivers to keep putting up numbers that will put him in Canton once he retires
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Brees has stood his ground as an elite signal caller in this league and even when fans and some analyst feel he’s falling off a little he gets back up. Brees endured something he hadn’t felt in a while and that was a losing season and even though they were 7-9 a second straight season, Brees still racked up the passing yards. This season he won’t have to worry the team reloaded around him and New Orleans should be ready to contend again in 2016.

7. Russell Wilson QB Seattle Seahawks

Wilson will be missing his key component in Marshawn Lynch but still has enough talent to lead this team to another playoff berth

Wilson started off rough in 2015 but pulled it together the second half of the season without his star running back Marshawn Lynch and rookie Thomas Rawls, Wilson used what he had and led the Seahawks to a playoff victory in the Wildcard round in Minnesota. Wilson should have a healthy Jimmy Graham and Thomas Rawls to help out the newly re-signed Jermaine to give Wilson his fully array of weapons.

8. Matt Ryan QB Atlanta Falcons

Time for Matty Ice and the Falcons to end a three tear playoff drought

The Atlanta Falcons and Matt Ryan worked well with what he had on the offensive side of the ball and still put together a decent season despite that. Julio Jones had a career season and helped Ryan through the storm and now that the Falcons have made some key moves and improved their run game and O-Line through the draft and free agency, Ryan may take a step in the right direction to get them back the playoffs after a 3 year absence.

9. Derek Carr QB Oakland Raiders

Carr has added some excitement back out in Oakland and have them thinking playoffs in 2016

Derek Carr put on a show with Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree in 2015 as he shook the sophomore slump and led the Raiders to one of their best seasons in a while. Carr looks to take another step as the Raiders look to make a name for themselves in the AFC.

10. Blake Bortles QB Jacksonville Jaguars

The young gunslinger had to be the biggest surprise in 2015, but can he capitalize on and put the Jags back on the Map in the AFC South?
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

If you ask me who was the most surprising player in 2015, Blake Bortles would definitely get my vote as he improved in all statistical categories from year one to year two. His double threat duo of Hurns and Robinson makes him a threat in the AFC and in his division this season. They are the key to him putting up more impressive numbers in 2016 and the key to the Jags success.

These are my top 10 QB’s heading into the 2016 season, halfway through the season this list could change dramatically, so be on the lookout after week 8. Only one can carry his team to a victory in Super Bowl 51, who will it be? Stay Tuned……….

I’ve got to agree with most of these. I might add Andrew Luck, even with all the picks last year. Wouldn’t quite bet on Bortles ending up being a better QB than Luck but with any of these lists it’s easy to split hairs. Good work on the whole. Looking forward to following this blog…
