The Carolina Panthers are bringing in safeties Donte Whitner and Stevie Brown for workouts this week. Both are veteran guys who the Panthers may be interested in to replace Tre Boston if he struggles.
Brown had one great NFL season with the Giants but has been a journeyman since, Whitner was actually a pretty good player with some Pro Bowls under his belt. If the Panthers sign Donte Whitner look for him to fill the Roman Harper role in the defense. This would allow Kurt Coleman to be the free ranger he was last year.
Whitner probably has lost a step or two but the Panthers can cover up a lack of speed like they did Roman Harper. Whitner was always a hitter and the Panthers linebackers help elevate the safety play.
